In today’s society, family, work, and economic pressures are persistently pushing us, overwhelming us, and taking a toll on our emotional well-being. Emotional health refers to how well a person is able to manage their thoughts, feelings, and emotions through the ups and downs of life.

People often confuse the terms ‘emotional health’ and ‘mental health’, which are two completely different things. Mental health is much broader than emotional health where emotional health is one massive contributor to the overall mental health. Emotional health can never be equal to mental health; a person with good emotional health can still face struggles and experience mental health problems.

Signs you might be struggling with emotional health:

  • You feel drained all the time.
  • You either sleep excessively or insufficiently.
  • You find yourself eating too much or too little.
  • You’re often anxious or irritated with your loved ones.
  • Your performance at work is beginning to slip.

Ways to Improve Your Emotional Health:

  • Smile often!
  • Try to express your feelings in an appropriate way (i.e., sharing them with a person you trust).
  • Spend some quality time for yourself.
  • Stay honest with yourself and others. Personal strength and emotional stability are built on integrity and transparency.
  • Live a balanced life.
  • It is not always necessary to prioritise physical and mental health. Emotional health should also be something you focus on.
