“Err…I hate school.” That was pretty much what I heard myself say year after year upon returning after a long summer break. All sorts of emotions bubbled within me, but the overpowering one was agitation. Growing up, I always associated school with just a place where I had to show up every day with a bag of books, but that vanished once I became a high schooler. It took me a while to realize that school wasn’t just a dead building but a house of life lessons and lifelong friends. I grin at the days I spent running around the corridors with my friends, laughing about the most absurd things, and of course, my favourite period of the day, the most vital one, ” lunch break”.

As I walk into this lively building today, I smile at all those new little faces chasing each other without a care in the world. I watch my teachers run behind them, trying to remember more names, guiding their little footsteps.

As someone who doesn’t have that much time left at school, I must say that, despite my piling workload stacked to my chin, each day is worth another page to pen down about. I’ve had so many memorable moments with all kinds of people. It’s so lovely to work towards building a life where others are also driving towards their goals, as a class, as growing individuals, and as a second family. Wouldn’t you agree?
